With the support of Tbilisi City Assembly and the initiative of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to Georgia, a memorial plaque of the famous composer Aram Khachaturian was opened in Tbilisi. The sign was placed on the building located at Uznadze Street #93, where Aram Khachaturian lived in 1906-1922. The mentioned issue was discussed by the Education and Culture Commission of Tbilisi City Assembly and gave a positive recommendation.
The memorial plaque of the famous composer was opened by the Chairman of Tbilisi City Assembly Giorgi Tkemaladze and the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Georgia Ashot Smbatian. The event was attended by Kakhaber Labuchidze, Chairman of Education and Culture Commission of Tbilisi City Assembly.
Chairman of Tbilisi City Assembly Giorgi Tkemaladze spoke about the centuries-old friendship between Georgian and Armenian people and said that the opening of the memorial plaque of the famous composer is another symbol of this friendship.
"Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to Georgia appealed to the capital City Assembly to place a memorial plaque to Aram Khachaturian, a genius composer, conductor and teacher of the XX century. In this house, which dates back to the end of the XIX century and has been granted the status of a cultural heritage monument since 2007, the famous composer Aram Khachaturian lived in 1906-1922. Khachaturian was born in Georgia, and he maintained memories of Tbilisi throughout his life. Along with Armenian folk music, his work was also influenced by Tbilisi urban folklore. The opening of the memorial plaque in Tbilisi is another symbol of the unwavering centuries-old friendship of Georgian and Armenian people," - said Giorgi Tkemaladze.
On his part, Armenian Ambassador Ashot Smbatian also spoke about Armenian-Georgian relations and said that today's event is important for both Armenia and Georgia. The Ambassador of Armenia thanked Tbilisi City Assembly for its support and expressed hope for future cooperation.
"Today we opened a memorial plaque to the famous composer Aram Khachaturian on the building where he spent his youth. Aram Khachaturian's work has gained its place in the history of world culture, although the first steps of creativity were taken in Tbilisi. Therefore, today's event is very significant for us. I would like to thank Tbilisi City Assembly for supporting this initiative," - said Ashot Smbatian.
The opening of the memorial plaque was attended by the Head of Staff of Prime Minister of Armenia, Arayk Harutinyan, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, Daniel Danielian and other well-known people.
